Welcome
to Clear Path DBT
We are a small, private psychology practice in Port Jefferson, NY in Suffolk County on Long Island. Our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) practice is dedicated to the knowledgeable and compassionate care of individuals struggling with intense emotions, behavioral difficulties, problems in their relationships, and other mental health concerns.
Clear Path DBT treats clients across all stages of life, from children (10 years and older) with emotional and behavioral dysregulation, to teens, young adults, college students, adults, and older adults. We strive to help individuals build a life worth living and attain the goals they have always desired.
Our psychology practice is committed to the delivery of evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions (MBCT), behavioral approaches, trauma treatment, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) by doctoral level clinical psychologists. Depending on your preference, we offer both in-person and telehealth appointments.
At Clear Path DBT, we also offer comprehensive, psychological assessments and evaluations to clarify diagnostic concerns, learning difficulties, cognitive strengths and weaknesses, executive functioning deficits, attentional and impulse control problems and to accurately determine the most effective recommendations and interventions.
At Clear Path DBT, we are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEAI). DEIA practices understand that the needs of any community, and the capacity to meet these needs, are always changing. We are constantly learning how to do this better as it is our deep wish for all individuals to loved, safe, and free.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
• Treatment begins by calling our office and providing personal information and your basic clinical history. If your call is not answered, please leave a message with your name, and contact information so that we can return your call within 24 to 48 hours.
• Please have your insurance information ready. Dr. Lehnert accepts employer-provided insurance from MAGNACARE Northwell Health Direct Tier 1, United HealthCare, Oxford, Oscar, UMR, UBH, and Employee Medical Health of Suffolk County (EMHP). If we do not take your insurance, payment arrangements may often be worked out by accessing one’s out-of-network benefits.
• When scheduling your appointments, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule and individual needs. We offer both in office and telehealth sessions.
• As a new client, you will attend an initial intake session to begin clinical evaluation and treatment. Full behavioral assessment may take several sessions.
• Participating in our DBT program will involve committing to attending weekly individual DBT sessions and a weekly DBT Skills Group.
• In individual DBT, all clients are expected to record their behaviors and emotions on a weekly diary card that helps inform the clinician about their daily experiences.
• The weekly DBT Skills Group is run like a class and includes a short mindfulness exercise, review of skills homework practice, and learning new skills.
• Between session skills coaching is available to assist clients in managing strong emotions and resolving problem situations especially early in treatment when new skills haven’t yet been learned and mastered.
• The clinicians will meet weekly in consultation team to make sure compassionate and competent DBT adherent care is being provided.
• To most effectively ensure positive and lasting changes in your environment, a weekly Multi-Family Skills Group is available for your loved ones so that they can learn the same new behavioral coping skills, sharing in your recovery and growth process. Although family members’ participation in the Multi-Family Skills Group is not required to participate in the DBT program, it is highly recommended.
